should fat people be shamed into losing weight?

Ricky Gervais

That’s what Ricky Gervais wants! FYI, he’s a comedian and star of the much funnier British version of “The Office.” He says there’s not enough stigma involved in being overweight, so people (including himself) aren’t motivated to change. He says people should be greeting their hefty compatriots with shouts of “fatty.” LOL! Here’s what Ricky shared to his podcast listeners,

“I don’t think there’s enough stigma. With all the political correctness now, and the fact that food is so refined, there’s no stigma any more. I laugh about being fat but I should be ashamed. I should walk down the street and have people shouting ‘Fatty’. That’s what I want, to get me out of it.”

Ricky Gervais also got some ideas about grocery store layouts, saying all the unhealthy foods should be “behind a thin door” or require crawling through a tube to get to them. He also notes that he has to buy new clothes every three months because he gets too fat for his old ones. YIKES! Now that’s definitely not healthy!

OMG!! Oprah is sooo huge!!

Oprah in Emmy Awards 2008

And before you chastise me for saying that — let me say this first: as long as she’s happy in her body, I have no business telling her to diet. Hehe! But, again, Oprah is sooo huge!! Tsk!! Anyway, this photo of hers was taken earlier tonight during the Emmy Awards 2008.

National Enquirer reveals Hollywood’s deadliest diets

National Enquirer cover Hollywood's deadliest diets

Last week’s National Enquirer has an article about Hollywood’s “deadliest diets”.

On the cover, there’s Janet Jackson (who dropped 72 pounds in a relatively short time), Britney Spears (“pills cause heart attack drama” – I haven’t heard about that story yet), Tara Reid (who was supposedly secretly hospitalized), Jodie Foster (whose “sudden weight loss” might not be as dramatic as they make it sound) and Beth Ditto (the “guess who?” on the left, who apparently eats a whole bucket of fried chicken and two cartons of ice cream for dinner).

I’m not sure how true these stories (and how real the photos) are, but I agree that eating too little (or too much) can be very dangerous, and even deadly in some cases.

Was Kirstie Alley fired for being too fat?

kirstie alley fired for being too fat

Kirstie Alley is no longer the spokeswoman for the Jenny Craig weight loss program, and the National Enquirer is suggesting that she was fired for being too fat.

Kirstie was replaced by Queen Latifah and Valerie Bertinelli. Here’s what Jenny Craig spokesman Scott Parker said:

“Although Kirstie will not appear in future advertising endeavors for us, she does remain on Jenny Craig‘s maintenance program and is confident that our program has helped her incorporate positive lifestyle changes that should last a lifetime.” [FOXNews]

I feel bad for Kirstie, but how can you represent a weight loss program if you keep gaining weight?

Supersize vs Superskinny episode 2

Supersize vs Superskinny episode 2

On this episode, Superskinny Yasmin Smith (who kindly left a message on my post where I presented this TV show) is forced to swallow a gargantuan diet of snack foods and diet drinks, while Supersize Darryl Weston weighing in at a whopping 33 stone (that’s 462 lbs or 209 kg) suffers on Yasmin‘s lactose, wheat, sugar and fat free diet.

Here’s a video of the first part of the show (you can view the other parts by searching on YouTube):

This is not about celebrities, but I thought you might find it interesting.

British Channel 4 is airing a documentary called “Supersize vs Superskinny“, which follows two girls (one overweight, the other underweight) swapping diets and lifestyle for a week.

The desired outcome is to make the girls realize they both have a dysfunctional relationship with food, and to prove that eating too much is just as bad as undereating.

The first volunteers were Sandra, a junk food addict, and Tatiana, a skinny teenager.

Edit:  “Supersize vs Superskinny” contestant Yasmin Smith has left a comment letting us know the show in which she participated will be aired on January 24 on Channel 4!
