Kate Bosworth talks about her weight (and a few other things) in the February 2008 issue of Vogue US magazine. She denied being anorexic, and said that she had lost so much weight in the past because of stress.

On losing 12 pounds from stress, which she attributed to dealing with an illness in the family:
“Whenever anything happens that’s very painful or stressful, we all lose weight — my mother, my aunt, my grandmother. … I honestly thought something was wrong with me. … I was concerned for my health and my fans, the public. I would have said, don’t look at this as the standard of some kind of beauty and health. [It was] a very dark time in my life.”

Here are some candid pictures of Kate Bosworth and her boyfriend James Rousseau eating hot dogs and waving to someone in New York City.

I found a very interesting article on Kate’s recent weight gain:

On April 23, Kate Bosworth showed up at a Food Bank for New York City charity gala flaunting a noticeably fuller frame than she did last summer. The 5-foot-5 actress, 24, had been “dangerously skinny at around 95 pounds, but she’s gained 10 to 15 pounds since,” estimates Beverly Hills nutritionist Jonny Bowden.

What was behind the weight gain?

“Kate stopped partying, started working out more, eating a bit more and generally doesn’t care about her weight so much because she¹s happy,” a source close to the actress says, noting that no dramatic intervention was staged.

Adds a longtime friend, “Stress can take its toll, and last fall was just hard for her.” (Bosworth and Orlando Bloom, 30, split in September.) “Kate is human. We all go through tough times.”

Now? The actress’ new regimen includes strength-building activities like hiking.

“She’s leading a happier, healthier lifestyle” with model beau James Rousseau, 26, says the pal.

Indeed, as Edward Abramson, author of Emotional Eating, tells Us, “Having a new relationship may have lifted her mood and restored her appetite.” [Source]

Here are some very fresh candid pictures of Kate Bosworth in a bikini top and denim shorts in Hawaii (taken this Friday, April 27).

I’m not going to put this post into the “extremely skinny” category. Kate is still very thin, but I think she looks much healthier than she did a few months ago, so maybe she’s recovering.

Kate Bosworth in V Magazine March 2007 issue

kate bosworth in v magazine march 2007 issue

Kate Bosworth is on the cover of the March 2007 issue of V Magazine that just came out.

Here’s what the article says:

Chances are, as you read this, Kate Bosworth is ordering takeout and roaming around her three-quarter acre Los Angeles property somewhere in the Canyon. Although it’s smack dab in the middle of Hollywood, she likes to think it’s more, as she puts it, “in the middle of Colorado.” (With the majority of Hollywood’s younger set stirring gossip fodder somewhere between their vehicles and the door of a nightclub, who can blame her for laying low?) When talking to the 24-year-old Massachusetts native, it becomes clear that it’s more than just her real estate that’s “in the middle” lately. Lanvin-loving fashion fan or Converse-kicking street kid? Box-office blockbuster actress or art-film ingénue? Scandal-loving Hollywood starlet or low-key homebody? As she herself admits, right now she’s not one of those stars committing to one set of adjectives.

It turns out, however, that Kate’s ability to work the whole spectrum has had its upside. Take her film career: her first role was as Scarlett Johansson’s best friend in 1998’s The Horse Whisperer, followed up by smaller films, including 2002’s Blue Crush, the star-making vehicle about a Hawaiian surfing threesome led by the blonde, bikinied Bosworth. Last year she ventured to blockbuster territory, taking the role of Lois Lane in the $200 million Superman remake. But, just as it looked like she was ready to sell her indie cred for marquee status, she wrapped another small film this year (“it was more a labor of love,” she says) with Sigourney Weaver, The Girl in the Park, by the writer of the Broadway play Proof.

Not that the strong-willed Bosworth hasn’t had her share of headlines: remember those “news” items about her extremely slender figure and dating Hollywood heartthrob Orlando Bloom on and off for four years? Not shockingly, she now says she isn’t a fan of Hollywood hangouts and prefers the local pub to the red carpet. The ability to fit in anywhere—or, as we like to see it, work the middle so well—is a skill Bosworth presumably learned in school: she’s said in the past that she always felt like the “new girl” as her father had to move his family around the country for his job, and that she has “this pain in [her] heart from what it was like to walk in with your lunch tray and not have anywhere to sit.” Well, the good news now is that Bosworth can sit at all the tables. And there’s something powerful about being the new girl—you can be whoever you want to be. - Derek Blasberg
